Map Of Terra

In the realm of Terra, the North and the South are separated by the Halvian Sea.  The storms and tempests that plague the Halvian Sea are dangerous and make navigation almost impossible.  Only few have ever been able to successfully cross the Sea and make contact with the other side.

It is said that only the ancestors of Wolfenstaad and Obsidsinoir have ever made contact with one another.  It is unknown why this contact was not maintained over time, although many feel it was due to the sheer danger in simply attempting to regularly travel the sea.  Both Wolfenstaad and Obsidsinoir had become the most dominant nations in their region, with little need for allies, so it is likely neither side had anything of value for the other.  Wolfenstaad has long been regarded as the most powerful and influential of all Northern nations, while Obsidsinoir has, through its vast resources, become an economic power throughout the South.

Outside of these two nations, few others have ever ventured far beyond their lands.

Wolfenstaad

The centre of the North has always been the Nation of Wolfenstaad.  It is regarded as one of the oldest of all nations.  It has maintained its role of dominance, through its military in the early years, to economics and diplomacy in the present.  They have always maintained a position of superiority in the military, scientific and medical fields.  This is due, in large part, to access to the largest reserves of mineral resources and precious metals in the realm.

While all nations have a nobility ruling over commoners, nowhere can the growing gap in inequality be seen more than Wolfenstaad.  The commoners who live on the mainland may have the same standard of living as other nations to the north, but the ruling nobility, House Wolfangell, is far wealthier that that of the other Nobilities.  This leads to a perception, accurate or not, fair or not, that the commoners of Wolfenstaad are the poorest in all the north.

While not possessing an excess of arable land and freshwater to feed their people, Wolfenstaad has enough of both to see its population grow at a relatively slow but stable level.  Enough to outpace that of other northern nations, but not enough to cause fear that it would be unsustainable.  At least, that is the prevailing wisdom from its Nobles.

The aftermath of a failed uprising would see an increase in tension between the ruling Nobles and the common citizens.  One which many Nobles realize has not faded as quickly as they had thought.

Obsidsinoir

Obsidsinoir possesses the largest reserves of arable land and freshwater.  This has allowed them to dominate their neighbours economically in times of peace as much is they dominated them in times of war with their armies.

Its dominance in the areas of agriculture has proved to be a somewhat mixed blessing.  The rich and fertile lands they inhabit are often cited as the primary reason for their fortunes, rather than the leadership of their Nobles, or the skills of their working class.  Out of earshot, foreign Nobles would claim that any people that inhabited that land could have achieved the same fortune.  It is a slight that many in Obsianna House have heard, but choose to keep silent on.  For confrontation over verbal slights was never a hallmark of their character.  They would respond, but in other ways that were more subtle, and would be felt for years, if not decades, by the offending parties.

They have long been accustomed to the lack of respect towards them, both from neighbouring nations in the south, who envy their strength, and nations in the north, who have always believed that nations beyond the sea, to the south, were beneath them.

Most Northern nations continue to regard Obsidsinoir as a 'developing' nation, despite the fact that it boasts many accomplishments none of the northern nations  have ever achieved, such as the construction of their massive airship, Serenity.

Despite the ill-informed sentiments and beliefs of other nations, Obsidsinoir, has long been a nation whose power has only grown with time.  So much so, that they may no longer be content, or even able,  to constrain their power and influence to only their side of the Halvian Sea...
